Here's this morning's challenge question: According to a study out of Great Britain, if temperatures continue to rise due to climate change, THIS basic commodity may be extinct 70 years from now. Which one?
It's COFFEE - specifically, the wild arabica crop.
A study by researchers at Britain’s Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew found that almost 100% of the areas suitable for wild arabica will disappear by 2080 if predictions of rising temperatures turn out to be true. Because coffee is a highly temperature-sensitive crop, the increase of a few degrees can put the future of Arabica coffee and the livelihood of millions of people who grow and produce it at risk.
Shuddering, I am...
Dawn got the answer right this morning, and we know she'll appreciate even more than usual her after-dinner cup at Alberto's when she uses the $30 gift card she's won.
